VWV Volumes #20: Our investment in Nutrimedy
Van Wickle Ventures is proud to announce its investment into Nutrimedy, a tele-health platform that connects patients with restricted diets to clinical dietitians and fills the lack of clinical nutritional support in the US. The venture was founded by Karolina Starczak (Alpert Medical School ‘17) and Jonah Cohen (Brown University ‘04), who hope to make clinical nutritional support available to all who need it.
Value Proposition
In the US, there is a lack of clinical nutritional support for cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, cancerous and kidney ailments. This is due to a shortage in dietitians, and most dietitians work as inpatient care providers, so there is little to no access to clinical outpatient care support. The current landscape results in long wait times to see a dietitian, or the prescription of a generic diet, both of which lead to worse health outcomes.
Nutrimedy solves this problem by providing virtual medical nutrition therapy to those with specific diseases, delivering personalized medical care to patients through one-one-one nutrition counseling. Patients are able to photograph their meals and upload it to the app to receive specialized care from their dietitian, resulting in healthier patients.
Conviction
The tele-health space has been a rapidly growing segment of the healthcare market, and Nutrimedy is positioned very well to expand in this market with a lot of potential. Nutrimedy also does not have many direct competitors and with their current revenue model continue to grow their defensibility. Additionally, Nutrimedy has the ability to expand quickly due to their SaaS model, allowing them to capture market share quickly.
We believe Karolina and the rest of the Nutrimedy team are extremely talented and driven individuals with a great grasp of the market and we at VWV are excited to continue to grow our relationship with Nutrimedy!
